Canta Rana is a boutique orchard near Puerto Berrio, Antioquia, Colombia. It is our home.
The orchard covers 65 hectares of rainforest at the edge of civilization. It has an ideal micro-climate that's hot and humid with regular rainfall. Canta Rana grows and produces high quality Borojó for national and international markets. We grow the fruit as a part of the rainforest, and produce Borojó powder on-site with a high-tech Vibrasec dehydrator. Canta Rana in espanól means the song of the frog, after the numerous singing frogs that inhabit our forest orchard. |
Meet the Team
Canta Rana is Dancer (Orchard Manager), Ruben (Director - in the middle), and Adriana (Marketing).
Ruben's dream is cultivating healthy foods that improve people's quality of life while protecting the environment. He has become an leading expert in producing organic Borojó powder. Dancer aims for long term sustainability. Ignoring instructions of planting with a view of easy harvesting, Dancer scattered the Borojó seedings throughout the rainforest instead of establishing an 'orchard' so that the trees would truely be part of their ecosystem. Adriana is committed to selling the highest quality Borojó powder in the world. |
A Biodiverse and Organic Jungle Orchard
Canta Rana orchard is 65 hectares of which 50 are native rainforest with five water sources.
We keep the forest and orchard organic. We do not use any pesticides or chemicals. We keep it natural. Because it's full of wildlife. |
Canta Rana has over 25 species of birds, Gulongos, Howler Monkeys, Anaconda Pythons, Black Panthers and Jaguars.
The forest is full of wild cocoa trees, mangoes, guava, and giant avocados. And of course our friends, the singing frogs. Photos taken at Canta Rana Orchard (except Jaguar). |
The department of the environment set up a camera to discover why a few sheep and cows on the neighbouring properties had disappeared. The camera discovered Black Jaguars and many other animals. Plus Dancer the orchard manager doing his round collecting Borojó.
Producing Borojó from the Rainforest
Borojó is native to the Amazon rainforest by the Pacific coast. It is incredibly hot and humid. And it rains. All the time.
Ruben took the seedings from the Amazon to an environment more suitable for him as a human to inhabit in beautiful countryside near Puerto Berrío. |
It took him seven years to acclimatize the Borojó seedings so they could grow well in a cooler, more mild climate. Canta Rana orchard gets up to 38 degrees (100 F) , over 90% humidity, and can rain 4 mm a day.
We grow, dehydrate and package the Borojo ourselves. Then we send it to you. Watch this slideshow of how we do it. |
